Learning Styles can Become Teaching Strategies by W. J. McKeachie
http://www.ntlf.com/html/pi/9511/article1.htm
In this article McKeachie discusses learning styles and the positive and negative effects of using different teaching strategies.
McKeachie states that while a teacher should use multiple teaching strategies to reach as many students as possible, there are also drawbacks such as teachers assuming a student can only learn effectively from one teaching style. McKeachie states that while a students learning style is their preferred way of learning they are capable of learnings in different ways.
I agree with McKeachie when he states, "None of the learning styles makes nearly as much difference as the student's prior knowledge, intelligence, and motivation. All of these characteristics are learnable." If a student is lacking the basic foundation, or is just not motivated to learn there is no teaching style that is going to make the student learn.
