This chapter is focused on integrating technology in a fine arts classroom. The chapter includes both music and visual arts, but since my expertise is in Visual arts I'll concentrate on that.
This chapter lists the reasons we should incorporate technology into the classroom as
1. expanded modes of expression
2. literacy for the information age
3. creative approach to modern problems
4. and arts as aesthetic balance.
Issues and problems with technology in an art classroom are also addressed and there is one I hadn't thought of.
1. funding
2. ethical issues involving use of images and other materials
3. Accessing images (this is the one I hadn't thought of, they mention that some filters for pornography would also block some art works as well !)
4. Challenges of meeting standards in arts instruction
The best part of the chapter is that the list the ways in which we can incorporate thechnology into the classroom.
1. Accessing art examples (websites)
2. using teaching examples & materials (powerpoint slideshow)
3.Producing and manipulating digitized images(photoshop)4.
4.Supporting graphic design (inDesign)
5.Supporting desktop publishing
6. Virtual tours of museums
7.Creating movies as art
8. using computerized Kilns ( I didn't even know these existed!)
9. Sharing students creative and research works.
Overall a very useful chapter for any fines arts teacher.
