Chapter 5 is all about software tools. Software tools are used to improve efficiency, and productivity. They also provide more accuracy and more support for interacting and sharing.
Software tools can be broken into 6 categories, Material generators, Data collection and analysis, Graphics tools, Planning and organizing tools, Research and reference tools, and content area tools.
Material generators - help teachers and students produce instructional materials and can include desktop publishing software, test generators and PDF makers
Data Collection/Analysis tools - helps teachers assess student progress and includes electronic grade books, computer testing systems, and student management systems.
Graphics tools- are used to manipulate graphics for documents and web pages and includes draw/paint programs, image editing software and clip art/font collections
Planning and organizing tools - help teachers and students organize and communicate their ideas. software includes concept mapping software and scheduling and time management tools.
Research and reference tools - let students look up information they need and includes electronic encyclopedias and dictionaries.
and Content area tools - support teaching and learning activities in specific content areas. Included in this area are CAD systems, Music editors, reading tools and GPS systems
